Nager Syndrome Care

Dr. Chad Purnell welcomes children and adults with Nager syndrome for craniofacial evaluation in Chicago. Patients traveling from across the country are welcome.

Nager syndrome affects development of the face, hands and arms. Facial differences can include underdeveloped cheekbones, a small lower jaw and a cleft palate. Some people have breathing, feeding or hearing difficulties. Each patient’s combination of features and previous treatment is different.

Craniofacial planning considers jaw structure, facial balance, breathing concerns, cleft-related needs and earlier surgery. Dr. Purnell reviews the patient’s goals and works with other specialists when needed to develop an individualized approach. A consultation helps clarify which concerns may benefit from surgery and how treatment could fit with other care.

Adults with Nager syndrome are welcome to discuss continued care after pediatric treatment, including remaining jaw or facial concerns. Prior operative reports, imaging and dental records can be useful when considering additional reconstruction.
